How To Put Air In A Tire
Putting air in a tire is a quick and easy process. It is important to keep the vehicle manufacturer's recommended amount of air in all four of your vehicle's tires for even tire wear, good ride quality and, most importantly, efficient fuel mileage.
Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1
Go to a gas station that has air pumps for tires. Many gas stations offer free or low-priced air to put in your tires.
Step 2
Remove the cap from the valve stem on the tire that you will be putting air into. Leave the cap in a place where it cannot roll away.
Step 3
Place the top of the air pump firmly over your tire's valve stem, hard enough so that you do not hear any air escaping.
Step 4
Continue to add air until the tire looks full, then remove the air pump from the tire's valve stem.
Step 5
Put a tire gauge firmly onto the tire's valve stem in order to read the tire's air pressure. If the air pressure is below the vehicle manufacturer's recommended tire air pressure level, then you will need to add more air to the tire.
Step 6
Repeat the process of adding air and checking the tire's air pressure until it reaches the manufacturer's recommended level.
Step 7
Replace the cap on the valve stem.
Step 8
Add air to all four tires, if necessary. Having the same tire air pressure in all four tires will ensure smooth ride quality and potential fuel savings.
Tips & Warnings:
You can find your vehicle manufacturer's recommended tire air pressure in your vehicle owner's manual or on a sticker inside of the vehicle doors.
